Did you
know?
Weight Training or
Cardio for Weight Loss?
If you're trying to lose weight by
restricting your calorie intake and doing cardio as your only source of
exercise, you may burn more than just fat.
In a recent study published by the
Journal of American College of Nutrition, researchers found that test
subjects who participated in a 12 week weight loss program consisting of 800
calories per day plus cardio work lost an average of nine pounds of muscle
mass. Subjects who took part in the same test but also did weight
training lost an average of only 2 pounds of muscle mass.
Keep in mind this was a controlled
study done by researchers and no one should attempt to eat less than 1200
calories a day unless supervised by a physician.
The important thing is to remember
that weight training, cardiovascular work and proper nutrition make up the
triangle of any healthy weight loss program.
