Subject: Executive Fitness Weekly Fit Tip: When Should You Stretch?

Did you know?

When should you stretch?

Stretching should be done during your workout or after you have finished your workout.
Contrary to popular belief, stretching before you start your workout can cause injury.  The muscles are cold and tight before we start exercising.  Stretching cold muscles is like trying to stretch a frozen rubber band and can cause muscle pulls or even muscle tears.

You should warm up for 5-10 minutes and then start your core workout.  Stretching can be interspersed throughout your workout or done at the end.  Stretches should be slow and static.  Do not bounce when you stretch as this could also cause injury.  Stretches should be held for 15-30 seconds and repeated 2-3 times on each body part.

Stretching helps prevent injuries and also helps us to become stronger.

Have a Healthy Day,
