You worked through lunch, forgot to eat breakfast, and now your stomach feels like its eating itself. Here are a few things that are easy to keep at your desk, or in the fridge at work when you need a quick bite!
Best Snacks at the Desk
Fresh Fruit/ Vegetables
Nuts are rich in essential nutrients such as fiber, protein, minerals, fatty acids, and antioxidants. They will give you a little extra boost when your at those odd in between meal times. Obviously not anything that is drenched in salt or sugar….or both.
Fruits and vegetables are easy to stick in the fridge at work. From apples and bananas, to baby carrots and sliced up peppers. All solid snacks for those long days at the desk. And if you keep them in the fridge it will give you an excuse to get up and move your legs around while you take a break from sitting.
Popcorn has tons of fiber and polyphenois. Polyphenois have a lot of health benefits including prevention of degenerative diseases and cancers. And again, not the kind covered in butter and all the crazy flavors that are available.
Peanut Butter goes great with just about any fruit in my book. Some of the same benefits mentioned above with nuts but be wary of additives such as vegetable oils, sugars and salts.
Dark Chocolate has been proven to lower blood pressure, is a powerful source of antioxidants, and is loaded with minerals. Aim for a brand that has 70-85% cocoa, again there is a ton of crappy chocolate out there, look for the highest cocoa content.
These are all good snacks to have on hand when your schedule is tight. But the better we plan on what we are going to eat in the future, the easier it is to make healthy choices. As the old saying goes, "If you fail to plan plan to fail".
