Get The Body You've Always Wanted
There is a lot of gimmicky health info on the Internet these days. It’s hard to keep up with it all. And yes, I used these pictures to grab your attention, did it work? This article contains no promises of rock hard abs, or how to lose 10lbs in 10 days. Just some thought provoking questions to help you look at YOUR physical health in a different light.
There are no right or wrong answers to these questions, as long as you are honest with yourself.
What is it you really want out of your body?
Do you want to be able to stand up paddleboard on the weekends? Do you want to play tennis a few times a week? How about sail, swim or even surf? How about being able to keep up with your kids? Establishing what you want out of your body is very important. As we age, the body will show wear and tear before the mind, and If you don’t set the bar as to what you should be capable of, it’s very easy to fall behind. It’s okay to change where that bar is set, but you should always have the connection between your mind and your body as to what each can handle.
What are you doing right now?
Do you go to the gym a few times a week? Have you stretched in the last month? Do you go on walk once a week? Do you have any idea what your heart and lungs can handle before you feel like your going to get sick? You need to be consistently working on your body. This isn’t to say you need to be doing a 1000 pushups everyday. But doing 10 minutes a day of something is better then no minutes.
What are you willing to change?
Will you take 10 minutes before getting ready for work to stretch out? Will you walk on your lunch breaks, or take a circuit class after work? If you are riding your bike 100+ miles a week will you add in some foam rolling for maintenance? No matter what you are doing, there’s always room for improvement. Maintenance of the body is just as important (if not more) as pushing your body to its limits.
Do you have a physical practice?
Do you know what should be in YOUR physical practice? Having a professional coach you through what your body needs will keep your body in an optimal state. Theres no such thing as perfect, only as close to perfect as you can get.
There are no quick fixes, no miracle pills, and especially no 5-minute washboard ab routines. The only thing that works is consistently giving your body what it needs in that moment in time.
